Mural Painting, Faux Finishing and Decorative Painting

Mural painting, faux finishing, trompe l'oeil and decorative painting are all ways to provide a distinctive atmosphere to a room, home or business. While the use of these techniques go in and out of fashion, there's really no more practical and cost-effective way to decorate your walls and give a space its own unique character - and if you want to reproduce a particular era or style, there is often no other way to do it.

Many wallpapers offer a similar appearance to faux painting but can be significantly more expensive, and unless you're building your room around them, it can often be impossible to find the right combination of pattern/texture and color. This is one of the great advantages of using paint: your color palette and range of finishes are pretty much unlimited. And although many faux finishes look very similar, particularly the more subtle ones, slight variations make each application distinct.

There are also photographic alternatives to murals which can be applied like wallpaper. One of the interesting things I've noticed about these though, is that they always seem to look like photographs. No matter how beautifully produced they are, they're not site specific, which means that in most applications, a photographic mural on its own never seem to be as intriguing or create the same illusion of reality and depth as a well painted mural or trompe l'oeil.

With a custom designed mural, faux finish or decorative painting, you can bring your home or office to life in a way that evokes your imagination, provides a sense of style and taste, and adds character to what might otherwise be an uninspiring space.
